i feel like. ok i feel like if you’re a fantasy book and you mention the existence of dragons in the beginning of the story, there better be some goddamn dragons at some point in the story. to talk about dragons is to make a promise to the reader and it must be kept: if you mention dragons then i am expecting eventual dragons. if i don’t get dragons (or at least a damn good explanation of why there are no dragons) then what was even the point.
