...Life Isn't Fair ❤️🩹
~ Something worth fighting for
Word count: 498
Pairing: Severitus (non-bio)
Notes: More of a little additional scene in my current WIP, Light of Mine (see pinned). Post-war.
"Ah, I see Molly paid you a visit."
The door to the fridge swung open, and Harry peered inside with great surprise.
Severus spent so long after the war neglecting himself, that it was almost expected to find rotting vegetables, stale bread, and cheese which had long since passed being edible. Harry would take it upon himself to help the man with groceries - despite his grumbling protests. But he knew he wasn't the only one trying.
The man in question peered up from his position at the stove - the familiar scent of ginger and honey tea wafting in the dimly lit abode - and turned a brow at the other. There was no hiding that silent scowl at being nitpicked, but there was no escaping the Gryffindor now so ingrained into his life.
"There is no ignoring that woman, against my better judgement, " Severus responded, turning back to brewing their tea.
Harry chuckled, "Yeah. Well, i'm surprised you let her inside. Merlin forbid you allow anyone else to see you."
A clinking of glasswear rang about in the small silence, as the tea was finally ready and ser upon the table, "Your presence alone tests my incredibly thin tolerance."
Satisfied, Harry closed the fridge door, only to find a familiar, colored scrawl of crayon plastered against its surface.
He smiled, "So, you gave in to Teddy's drawings after all. I feared I'd have to keep explaining to him why you hated them."
A deep, bitter sigh emanated from the man, "I am not one to appease a child - least from Lupin's spawn, but I was tired of him crying about it everytime you brought the little cretin over."
Harry turned to look at Severus, and finally sat down upon the table. Freshly brewed tea providing a welcoming scent to the senses, "He is always excited to see you, you know."
The response was only met with a low huff, like a dissatisfied cat. Neither one of them knew why, really, despite Severus' usual imposing nature. Teddy remained fearless, much to Harry's amusement, and always found an interest in the man so determined to keep away from him.
Despite the amusement of that situation, he knew how difficult it was for Severus to adjust after the war. From battling the curse that nearly took his life and enduring being villanised by the public, to finding solace in a family he grew to find and finding purpose again after so much of his life was stolen. They were all trying to navigate life without danger, and stepping into such domestic roles were all so new for all of them.
Severus tapped his fingers upon the table - years of stress still evident upon his tired, gaunt features of a time once almost inescapable. As with the twisted scar upon the side of his neck, telling of what was meant to be his end.
But Severus - he fought. And given his new almost paternal relationship with the Boy Who Lived...
...he fought hard.
You know, when writing a post-war severitus, I realised Harry and Severus have these little moments during their heart-to-heart conversations where they do these little soft shoulder/arm nudges. Harry nudges Severus more, but it's endearing when Severus returns the gesture.
I didn't realise I had made it a thing until I read back through it all.
🥹
A sneak peak of the missing scene in Light of Mine where Severus elects (rather begrudgingly) to look after little Teddy, while Harry and Ginny race to a family emergency.
Still needs a lot of editing, but ✨️
In the past few weeks i've had Whatever It Takes recced twice by someone, and I know it's not technically a big deal, but it is for me 😭❤️🩹 It doesn't happen often, and it's so hard to have your story been given a chance in any community.
The last fight

Chapter 47 - Solis Occasum
'In the setting of the sun'.
Authors Note: Oh yes, it's been a long while since my last update! After taking a year and a half off from writing/fandom to take of my health, I am finally back to resume this story ❤️ Although I have not written much since I returned, I wanted to start publishing the chapters I wrote ahead, several years ago. I have since made a few edits, but spent much of that time catching up where I left off. That was indeed quite the task 🫠
I do not have a posting schedule, but this story will see to its end as best as I can - I never gave up on Severus', Harry's, or Dawn's journey. These characters are far too dear to me.
Enjoy the return ✨️
Sneak peak:
‘Severus –
It’s a boy! Me? A dad? Can you believe it?!
Ginny is doing well. She’s bloody amazing! Fourteen hours in labour, but both are healthy.
Oh, I can’t wait for you to meet him. Please don’t be long until you do.
Give the news to Minerva and the others and I’ll see you soon.
Harry.'
Severus sat in awe with the letter in his grasp. A new Potter. He still couldn’t believe this even happened. Harry’s child. Where he once looked at the name Potter with such disdain, now he felt…pride. The name no longer held such venomous hatred, but now, hope. A future. Not the dreaded past.
Life definitely worked in strange ways. Now he felt old.
