The Post-Project Review

Let's take a trip back to Project Management 101.  The post-project review is a tool to help evaluate the successes (and short comings) of a project.  Everyone can basically agree it has value and serves a purpose in the life cycle of projects.  However, in the fast moving world of start ups, post-project reviews often don't get implemented.  There always seems to be some other pressing issue, which causes a delay in the review meeting.  Before you know it, a month has passed and you are already deep in the next project.   

It is your job as mangers, team members, and leaders of your companies to break this cycle.  The post-project review is an opportunity for your team to learn and grow as a group.  It is a chance to not just find out the "what went wrong" in a project, but a chance to find out what went right and recognize those who went that extra step.  By giving recognition to those individuals, you strengthen their commitment and dedication to your team.  As for project problems, sometime your team will want and need to vent about issues in a blame free environment.  By providing an outlet to acknowledge your team members, you build trust and camaraderie.  

So, make the time and implement post-project reviews with your team.  And don't underestimate the powers of a breakfast meeting with coffee and doughnuts or a lunch meeting with pizza to persuade people to come.
