Choosing a blog url that reflects you (as a person/your personality) is quite difficult. I’m sure that some time in the future, I’ll probably change mine a couple of times before I get satisfied. Right now, though, I’ve decided to settle with alysslostinwonderland as a temporary or permanent url/blog name.
alyss came from my real name “Alyssa”, generally pronounced as uh-lee-suh, though mine is pronounced uh-lie-zuh most of the time. Just a short story or something about me: Alyssa is a variation of Alice and the only Alice I know is from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. As a child, it’s one of my most hated children’s story of all time. Back then, I thought it’s too nonsensical and boring. I couldn’t grasp what Mr. Carroll was trying to tell the young me as a reader. Not at all.
Aside from being a fan of fairy tales and children’s stories, I’ve also been obsessed with the meaning and origin of names. Imagine my great disappointment when I found out that “Alyssa” is a variation of “Alice”, a book character I intensely disliked. I remember harboring a small internal grudge against my parents (mainly, my father, who was actually the one who named me) for a couple of years because of my name.
Petty, I know. Buuut I grew up and matured a lot (I hope). I got over it and “Alice in Wonderland” is now part of my ever growing tbr list.
Now, lost pertains to the feeling of restlessness and confusion, for I often find myself searching for my “true self”, as well as for my place in the world around me; somewhere I can belong. wonderland , the keyword there is wonder, a noun for a feeling of amazement and admiration, as well as a verb that means to feel curiosity.
As I’ve mentioned, I’ll probably change my url a couple more times in the future or whenever I feel like it. But there you have it, the reason why I chose this particular url.
Thanks for reading :)
