Cable by John Romita, Jr., with Colors by Brad Vancata, and Tom Smith did the Reprint Colors.
Ok, so, this was published as the inside front and back covers for Cable: Blood and Metal # 1. It’s a double-page spread, but it’s a vertical image. So you open the comic and the oversized contents are staples in the middle, and this was a poster that could be tacked on your wall. Kind of nutty, but still very cool.
This 2 oversized-issue miniseries was supposed to be a 4 issue mini with story and artwork by Rob Liefeld. But, Rob announced his departure from Marvel right around this time (to go and form Image Comics). Marvel wanted to keep the ball rolling on the X-Force sales successes, so they brought John Romita, Jr. in to do his version of a Rob Liefeld style book.
The result is a book that looks better and is more fun than anything Rob has ever done. It’s over the top, yet grounded in rock-solid artistry, and it just works. It’s honestly a very pretty book.
*please check out my buddy, theMarvelProject - he posted the reprint colors a while back. He and I have been mutuals for years. He’s got a great scroll!*
