Don't forget to update your name on the Class of 2019 page and on Wayfaring's medblr spotlight list.
Thanks! I’ll be sure to do that!
postgrad-premed said: I don’t recommend applying this cycle since you haven’t taken the mcat yet and you probably don’t have LORs yet. You should wait to apply in summer 2016 which will mean you will start in fall 2017. Also consider DO schools depending on your GPA.
What’s the harm in trying anyway? I’ll be out $160 bucks...but it could be a good experience and good practice with MMIs. I’m still deciding.
I once got really good advice from someone. He said “never ever self-select out”. Meaning never give up your chance at something because your perspective tells you you don’t have a chance. You really truly never can know the outcome of something 100%. So I may or may not try.
Thank you for the feedback though!! You guys are an awesome resource and I’m so happy I decided to make this blog haha.

Did you already take physics? I heard that wasn’t a PA prerequisite but it is a med school one.
I’ve taken Physics I. I’m taking Physics II this next semester. I actually started out as a physics major as a freshman, and both Physics I/II are required for my degree anyway.
postgrad-premed said: Hopefully your current degree has a lot of overlap with the med school prerequisites.
Fortunately it does since I was preparing for PA school anyway. The course prereqs are very similar with some slight differences. I’ll be getting my BSHS in Physiology from my school’s College of Medicine this December.
But now I have to take the MCAT...

Did you go back to scribing?
Nope, I decided that if I had to work, I didn’t want to spend the summer working in a hospital. Of course I enjoyed being a scribe, but I’ll have the rest of my life to worry about medicine. I just got a basic, part-time food service job that pays all right and will give me something to do, but I won’t feel too guilty about quitting once school starts. I’m also telling myself that the experience will be good for me. I’ve never worked in food service before, and I’ve heard that it’s something everyone should experience at least once. We’ll see how it goes!

So do you have to retake these classes as a first year next year?
Nope! That’s the great thing about my program. I’ll just be a TA for the classes I’ve already taken next year, which means I will have completed a little less than half of my first year before it even officially begins! If I chose to go to a different med school though, I would have to start from the beginning like everyone else. But since I only have the one acceptance, I don’t have to worry about starting over.

You’ve got to top aortoenteric fistula.
I don't think I can! That was by far my most intense/awesome patient encounter. I'm not sure anything will top that for a long time!
