Title: #homestatelove Author: gorgeousnerd Rating: PG Length: 1224 words Summary: Patrick wakes up alone in the middle of the night (which is not weird) with a small box and Pete's phone on resting on top of Pete's pillow (which is). Read it here.
Title: According to Your Heart (It's Our Time Now) Author: fanatic_by_definition Rating: R Length: 32k Summary: “Are—are you trying to say you’re okay with it? Kissing me in a fucking music video?” Patrick sounds horrified at the very notion of it. Pete does his best to not feel personally offended. “Just calm down, man, it’s really not a huge deal—” “Not a huge deal? Pete, it’s a kiss!” Aaaand cue the melodramatic freak-out Pete had been expecting. “You told me it was about our friendship, not a fucking relationship! I don’t give a shit that it’s two men, but it’s us! They want us to kiss! Like, your lips and my lips fucking touching each other in a fucking romantic embrace, ON CAMERA, while a goddamn love song plays in the background! I—I just—It’s—” A frustrated growl ends the rant. Pete pictures Patrick’s pink cheeks and the over-exaggerated hand gestures he must be making; in any other situation, the image would be amusing. – Pete pitches an idea for the “The Kids Aren’t Alright” music video. It’s misinterpreted. And while he might not mind so much, Patrick definitely does. Read it here.
Starting Something Again
This summer I learned a lot. About life in general.
I’m typically a very private person. I laugh a lot and I’m rather extroverted, but I tend to keep my personal life to myself. It’s simply not relevant when I’m dealing with people on a day to day basis and imo it’s much more fun to have good banter or to grapple with deep intellectual fodder. Because ew feelings. Ew venerability. Gross.

Anyway, I’ve been off Tumblr for a really long time; I suppose it was the inner cynic in me dismissing the medium as optimistic bullshit for those who don’t want to deal with the external realities of the world. Ah, jaded youth – but that’s really more of an excuse. It’s also not true. I suppose the truth is that I somehow had forgotten how much voices really mattered. Especially the voices of those who aren’t allowed to have a voice or typically don’t. In not listening, or in the case of Tumblr, not reading, I’ve done the community and myself a disservice.
Tumblr is a medium that allows every voice to be heard and that’s such a necessary thing in the world today – a place of free ideological exchange. That’s a privilege that a lot of us take for granted.
I was in a shit place last year and the year before that but the most important thing that I learned – throughout dealing with my shit as well as in experiencing this summer, among other things, was that even though the world is full of shitty occurrences, it doesn’t have to be this way. And when we go about our lives and interact with the world and other people, we have to remember that while the world sucks, we don’t always have to. We don’t need to lower our standards just because the world doesn’t meet them because mathematically, the world can meet them.
I learned this from the people that were around me and I am so grateful to them because the worst thing one can ever do as a person is to stop believing that. By quitting Tumblr, I was, in my mind, invalidating an entire group of people simply because they believed that there could be better. (That’s a vague generalization but whatever – point still stands.)
So, I’m back.
They say that there are two kinds of people. Those who love people but hate humanity and those who hate people but love humanity. I identify as the latter. People suck, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve to be treated with respect and fairness or listened to.
That’s what this blog is dedicated to. It’s my personal blog, yes – but feel free to join me in my journey as I try to not be cynical in a world that invites so much cynicism.
Wit is my sword, sarcasm is my shield and together, we do battle against a tide of bull.
I’m starting again. And this Tumblr will actually be alive with my work.
