Had a less than stellar day yesterday so I dove into looking through a trove of vintage #dinosaur and #fossil books I bought recently. I’ve been looking for a book I had as a kid. Didn’t remember the name or the author, just a bit about a few passages and an illustration comparing bird-hip and lizard-hip bones. It was given to me by a 5th or 6th grade teacher when I was in 1st grade. The older class had given a dinosaur presentation to the younger classes but I was sick that day so my mom (thanks mom!) arranged for them to let me come look at the Dino stuff the next day since I was so obsessed with them. The teacher set up a video for me to watch (stop motion dinosaurs) and I got to see the presentation boards and now-extinct volcanoes the student made. There was also a table full of dinosaur books I could look at. Apparently he was impressed by choice to sit and read the “adult” level Dino book. It was the first dinosaur themed book I’d ever seen that wasn’t a picture book (plus I’d already read or owned the kids books on the table. He let me have it. Granted it was published in 1937 and already somewhat out of date, but my love for all things dinosaur has never wavered. And here it is. My long lost friend. Making a rotten day a whole lot better. Thank you #5thgradeteacher and all #teachersofinstagram who make a difference. Even if you only meet a student for one day, you can make a profound impact on their lives. #posttoolong #teachingelementary #paleoart #paleontology #dinobooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkPo2mH8Lc/?igshid=1so55gmouvcvq
