"Dare"
27. Spend the rest of the day dressed as a maid
Jean’s eye quite literally twitched. “Are you fucking kidding me?! Why does this always happen to me,” he frowned and glared at nothing in particular, running a hand through his hair as he looked back at Sasha. His facial expression softened then, “You wouldn’t happen to have a maid dress in my size, would you?”

As a child you never gave your clock much attention, you weren't the type of girl who really gave two flips about it when it happened it happened and you weren't about to rush it. But you were certainly not ready to face such a thing this late in your life. By now most of your friends had already found their soulmates, even Jean had and he was completely repulsive!
Many of them were concerned about you since your clock had been at zero for a long time. There had been so many theories thrown around, were they dead? Maybe you'd met them but someone better for them had been born? Were you just around them all the time? Did you not have one? Either way you weren't too distressed, you lead a happy life working in your wood shop. You had friends and time on your hands and not very many bills to worry about. You were content.
But some time, maybe a month ago, the numbers clicked on like the batteries hadn't been charged or something and started counting down. You probably wouldn't have noticed it at all that day if you hadn't knocked over your bowl of cereal that morning. As you wiped your arms you noticed the numbers. Numbers that hadn't been there since before you could remember.

You were a little startled. More than a little you were freaking out. You weren't ready for this! You'd come to be happy with your life of almost certain solitude, there wasn't really any dating since everyone knew when their soulmate would appear, so this was a huge event!
You spent that day wondering if you'd be forced into a relationship with someone you didn't even know but some clock on your arm, which was a stupid thing anyway, told you you were meant to be.
As the month went on you slowly relaxed about the idea. You were curious who this person would be. Were they really your soulmate? Would you even be bothered with them? Maybe you could put it off until you died.
38:26:13
You'd all but forgotten your near panic at the thought of meeting someone new. Really you didn't have to do anything. So whoever they were, if you weren't ready, you could just push it off for another day.
22:41:08
You'd taken to covering up your clock just so your friends won't see and ask you. And so you won't be one of those neckers who look at their clock constantly. It helped some. But you couldn't help glancing at it from time to time, despite its being covered.
00:56:34
You were working again, as you usually did thursday mornings, putting the finishing touches on a new piece for your shop. Your father had called you today and mentioned that a family member, who he didn't say, would be coming over. Something about a long lost relative or something. You really hoped it wouldn't be some old lady coming to pinch your cheeks and tell you how much you remind her of her when she was a young lass.
00:10:22
You're sitting, looking bored behind your service counter, as you wait. It wasn't quite closing time and even though there was no one in the store you were going to keep to your hours. You gave a yawn and scratched at your covered wrist. Not even thinking to look at the ticking timer there.
00:00:09
You're so bored and you're really ready to get home. But business is business.
00:00:0800:00:0700:00:06
You dip under the counter for a moment to grab a rubix cube, those things were always fun, to pass the time.
00:00:03
Partway through a carefully planned move the bandage on your wrist unties itself and you mutter a curse as you put down your cube to grab the fallen cloth.
00:00:02
The chime on your door rings as you sit back up, cloth in hand.
00:00:01
You only get a moment to take in the numbers on the clock before a shadow appears over you.
00:00:00
There is a woman standing before you, looking maybe just a little smug, with your face. Not just sort of like you. But your face! You've just met your soulmate and she looks just like you.
You could deal with that.
