Pirates of the Caribbean Series Rant:

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies are so good. They are my favorite movies in the whole world. I absolutely love them. The first one (COTBP) is basically flawless. The second and third (DMC, and AWE) are both really good as well. The thing that the first 3 have in common are the main characters of Will and Elizabeth. Strong main characters with depth. Then, the fourth (OST) came along... This movie is where the biggest mistake happened. They made Jack Sparrow a main character. Don't get me wrong, I love Jack as much as the next person... But he is good as a supporting character, not a main character, in my opinion. He is good for comedy relief, and for the character that can either save the day, or ruin it. He is just too unpredictable for a main character. When you watch a film, the main character has to have a very specific goal in mind that they are trying to acheive. Jack is unpredictable, he never knows what he wants, which is part of what makes him likeable, but also makes him a better supporting character than a main one. The film also had absolutely nothing to do with Will and Elizabeth, the main characters we are used to. This was it's biggest mistake, in my opinion. They should not have made Jack the main character, we should have had him as a supporting character to strong main characters with a bit more depth. The 5th film (DMTNT) was better in a lot of ways. The story was great, the main character was at least connected to Will and Elizabeth (their son). Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley even reprised their roles for a couple of scenes. And, most importantly, Jack was back to being a supporting character, all was well. Except for the fact that Johnny Depp seemed to have lost all sense of who Jack Sparrow is. He used an entirely different voice than he had in any of the previous film's, which is unusual for a guy who has been playing this character for nearly 15 years. It was disappointing... So yeah, the 5th one was still better than the fourth, but it wasn't as good as it could be because Johnny couldn't find his character.
I've been watching these movies the past few days, and I have come to this conclusion. My list from favorite to least favorite is now 1,3,2,5,4. They will always be my favorite movies, I love each and every one of them. None of them are bad movies, some of them just don't blend well with the rest. It's okay though. They are all very good. And, if they ever make more, you better believe I will be first in line for those tickets.
So, yeah... Rant over.
Does anyone else feel this way about the 4th and 5th films, or is it just me?
