This quiet, pensive man has been a friend and a mentor for the past 20 years. I don’t think my practice is ever possible without his early influence on the way I think about surfaces, objects and language. His ways of seeing are infused with so many performative gestures; you are always in transit when you are looking and thinking about his work.
