Kevin shushes the girl and pulls his hood over his face more, “Its cause I am the prince. I snuck out of the castle…”

Rai’s eyes widened, looking around to make sure no one else was watching. “What are you doing here?” She asked in a whisper, pulling the prince by the arm into her shop. “Are you mad? You’ll have every guard in the kingdom here looking for you!”

Rai let out a soft whimper when she heard Kevin’s voice. It was the sweetest sound she had heard in what felt like an eternity. In truth, she never thought she’d see him again. She had thought that this dark place would be her tomb. But he came for her and she was never so happy to be proven wrong. She pulled weakly against the ropes in a fleeting attempt to get free but it only caused more pain. Tears filled her eyes as her body slumped once again, barely able to hold her head up as she tried to focus on him.

“You’re here,” she said, her voice raspy. “I’m so sorry for being late.”

Rai’s heart broke when he told her that people laughed. If only she had been there. “I’m so sorry, babe. Those people are jerks who don’t know the meaning of compassion,” she told him, grabbing the towel and dipping it in the warm water. “It’s gonna sting a little now,” she warned him, gently patting the scrapes on his arm.

Rai rubbed her eyes, glancing at the clock. “You did, but it’s fine,” she answered, attempting to stifle a yawn but failing. In truth, she didn’t really mind as long as he wasn’t going to make a habit out of calling her at three in the morning. “What’s on your mind, babe?” She asked, another yawn slipping past her lips.

It wasn’t uncommon for Rai to see people in costume walking around for a convention in the city. But giving the fact that there was no con going on, seeing the man full costume and makeup was unusual. He looked like something straight out of a fantasy novel. Still, she had to give him props. Walking around in that outfit in the heat of the summer was brave, to say the least. She had been so lost in thought over his appearance that she hadn’t even registered the question he had asked.
