and as a bonus, here is a scrappy one involving james that i have sitting around too ✌️

Someone sat hunched in a dark corner of the cell, their features obscured.

"Skylord James?" Xephos asked, as Honeydew finished picking the lock. He cautiously stepped inside the open door, his torch held aloft. The flame illuminated the figure a little, who had now glanced up at the two of them.

He looked as haggard as all the other skylords had, with his dark circles and darker bruises, though he also had a nasty-looking cut marring his top lip. His chin-length hair hid his face somewhat and was an interesting two-tone, like it had been bleached in the past and the roots had now been left to grow out.

As exhausted as he clearly was, there were embers of defiance still burning in his green eyes as he looked them over with a piercing scowl. His lip twitched a little as he surveyed them both, but he said nothing.

“We uh...” Xephos stuttered, faltering slightly under the man’s sharp gaze. He tried again.

“Amber sent as,” he said. “We’re here to rescue you.”

The Skylord gave a small huff that could have been construed as some kind of laugh when paired with the slightly bitter twist to his mouth, but again said nothing.

Xephos and Honeydew glanced at each other nervously.

hmmm debating what to do with horus’ hair in prisoners-of-war au and whether he simply leaves it longer and styles it and trims his beard once he’s safe at base, or if he begs honeydew and xephos for a knife so he can feverishly hack off as much as he can at the earliest opportunity

.....and additionally im wondering if im feeling mean enough to go down a personalised torture route and have the interrogators learn that horus is someone who preens and cares about his appearance, and so when he refuses to give them information, they give him the shittiest most uneven haircut possible, ..and aghhh perhaps even burn some hair so he has to smell the damage theyve done too

anyway some skylords prisoners-of-war au tidbits about The Rescues™️:

horus desperately tries to keep a point of contact between xephos and honeydew or just be as close as he can the entire way back to base, because he is a very social person who has been isolated for months and god someone please touch him

james tries to remain stoic, barely says a word, and doesn’t rest at all on the journey back, but once they get to base and he sees other skylords waiting for him at the gate, he collapses to his knees and just sobs uncontrollably as his emotional wall finally breaks

finnigan is in a really bad way. he is unconscious, feverish, and his pulse weak when xephos and honeydew find him, and for once, xeph’s hoarding of potions comes in handy, and he uses up all of the strength ones carrying him out of there

unnamed doesn’t say a single word at all, and it’s a fairly long while before they speak even after safely reaching the base. honeydew and xephos get to learn some sign language though

vimes seems... almost amused at the sight of xephos and honeydew at his cell. and he ends up mostly directing them on the way out of the prison. they aren’t quite sure what to make of that. vimes winks and taps his blind eye like it answers the question. it doesn’t.

For the headcanon meme: ASGZC AU where the Wutai war flares up again & Cloud is sent to the front lines. After a lost battle Cloud is captured as a POW, but Shinra is more interested in destroying what's left of Wutai's military than they are with finding & bringing home their own missing infantry. However, once Cloud's connection to Shinra's top SOLDIERs is discovered, his captors try to use him as leverage. How does ASGZ handle this?

Cloud’s entire infantry platoon and a handful of SOLDIERs surrendered when it became quite clear they were going to lose. Cloud tried his best to be inconspicuous. He wasn’t even sure how the Wutai SOLDIERs found the picture of him from his latest Birthday. All of his boyfriends were in it with him. Cloud got dragged away from the rest of the camp. 

ASGZ were spending all of their resources trying to get the men back. ShinRa wasn’t having any of it. They felt they could afford to lose those soldiers. The tone of the arguments changed completely when the first video call came in. There was some pointless negotiating before Cloud got dragged in. Cloud was obviously reading from some sort of script, saying he had been fed and not hurt...yet. It was addressed mainly to Sephiroth. Then Cloud went off script and begged them not to tell his mother what happened. The Wutai soldiers dragged him off, but not before Sephiroth lunged for the screen promising he would kill them all if Cloud was harmed. 

Angeal, Genesis, and Zack make plans to desert ShinRa and SOLDIER. They’ve had enough arguing and they are going to get Cloud back one way or another. The only problem is getting past the Turks. Zack decides it’s time to cash in on every favor he possibly can. 

Cloud is roughed up and starved a little for the next call. He’s still relatively healthy, but terrified out of his mind waiting for one of his guards to attack him. Then one day there’s a girl outside his cell. Cloud doesn’t exactly know how to take the future empress of Wutai. She’s very cold and hostile towards him at first, but then starts to understand that this “Monster-lover” (as he’s called) is nothing more than a scared boy not much older than she is. 

Yuffie and Cloud take up a rather strange sort of friendship. They argue all the time and Yuffie gets a sense of her enemy that she never really thought about. Cloud didn’t have much of a choice in coming here and neither did his lovers. Yuffie is also calculating. She has something a very powerful enemy very much wants back. She can lure the other SOLDIERs here if she hold on to Cloud, but...if Cloud was her ally by the time they arrived...she could have a few more very powerful assets toward her cause. Everyone is surprised when Yuffie demands Cloud be released from his solitary cell. Cloud already suspects her plan...but doesn’t blame her in the least.
