I can see Allura being one of the old Avatars HECK she can be the Avatar who ended up being sealed for 10,000 years which is long enough for people believing the avatar as a myth
ooooh, it would make sense to seal allura away. if she died and a new avatar reincarnated, there’s no guarantee they’d be able to find and train them properly with the speed in which the bad guys (forgot their names oop) colonize and destroy planets. have her sleep so long people start thinking the avatars are a myth, and that’s when it’s safest for her to return.

i could see something like that. voltron is set in the far-away future so i guess the rules and how the avatar spirit manifests itself could change with time.
