FIC: Something in the Forest (MLB, Lukanette, Winters 'Verse)
Rating:T / PG-13 / Teen
Characters/Pairings: Luka Couffaine, Marinette Dupain-Cheng; Luka Couffaine/Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Summary: Something has crept into Luka’s Forest, threatening its inhabitants. Luka makes Marinette promise she’ll stay out of the woods while he investigates, but a few days later he makes a gruesome discovery at the river…
Author’s Notes/Warnings: Winters, during that first summer Luka and Marinette met (before she, y’know, accidentally proposed). TW for mentions of blood. It’s Fairy Tale Week over at the @lovebugs-and-snakecharmers Sprint Challenge, and somehow the mods were nutty enough to listen to my prompt suggestion of Redcaps? I kinda had to. Felt contractually obligated or something. xD (Plus…life has been Royally Kicking My Ass, and I’ve written barely anything this month. I need to finish HS, but I felt like I needed something simple to warm up first? It was supposed to be simple, at least. Six sprints would argue otherwise…)
“Something in the Forest”
“Don’t ye be giving me that look, snake.”
Luka felt his jaw clench, his eye twitching with annoyance. He tried to school his expression, merely lifting an eyebrow at the dwarf grumbling before him instead of doing something really offensive like scoffing.
“There is no look, Redfoot,” he sighed, reaching up to rub at his temples. “There is no look, no accusations, no ill will. There is merely curiosity.”
The dwarf grumbled and shuffled again, his beady eyes squinting back towards the mouth of the cave. They both knew he’d rather be below, back at work in the mines, instead of answering Luka’s interrogations.
