Smallpox in Wales, 1962, part 10 of 11
Smallpox patients from the 1962 outbreak in Wales. I am guessing that the elderly patients are the women from Glanrhyd Mental Hospital. They contracted the disease when it was carried on the air from a nearby hospital that was treating isolated smallpox cases. The building in question was nearly a mile away from Glanrhyd and it is a chilling reminder of just how dangerous this virus is. I discussed the Glanyrhd outbreak in part 3 and 4 of this series.

Pox viruses are the largest and the most complex of all viruses, belongs to the family poxviridae and causes a number of diseases, are large enough to be seen under the light microscope. Poxviruses grow in Chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) and in tissue culture, produce pocks on the CAM in 48-72 hours....

So apparently my chameleon has pox (reptilian papilloma virus) oh boy It's incurable, and super contagious via fluids and scratches to any other reptiles, and basically means he's gonna grow weird growths that will have to be surgically removed every time they get too big so he can't ever breed or share space with other reptiles (and I also can't responsibly sell him, only give him to a rescue who knows their shit and can keep him indefinitely in quarantine conditions I'm just learning about pox, but apparently there's almost zero research done with it. Anybody have any decent info?
