I read the script, here’s some of the high lights;
Btw Drake is the Professor. Also this was hot garbage
𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘶𝘧𝘧 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘴𝘥
𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐁𝐘 @𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐋𝐄𝐒
𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞
𝐃𝐨 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐥
Bro why the fuck did the script writers have Bubbles (the only character played by a WHITE girl) say the line “you whitewashed us!” to the Professor about the cartoon???
Like??? Um???? CW??? You are??? Aware??? That Dove Cameron???? Is white??? Right????
Blossom and Buttercup are both played by women of color, if you wanted to talk about white-washing that bad have the literal women of color have that line.
And oh my god is there the discussion to have on how this script is attempting to villainize Craig McCracken and the original cartoon. The fact this script has the gull to act like the cartoon was made with white-washing intentions, even though the show itself was based off a doodle Craig made for his brother’s birthday of three girls that became the PPG, is so gross to me, especially when the cartoon came out in 1998, literally 23 years before your shitty reboot was even an idea CW.
Guide for knowing when a remake/reboot is going to be a waste of your time
A character is raceswapped
Said company constantly shouts how inclusive they are
All other shows from said company are just terrible
It’s an anime being turned into live action on Western soil
The creator/author isnt working with the production team
The creator/author left the production team because of the changes
It’s by CW or Netflix
Minors characters are suddenly aged up 4x their age
Minor characters are aged up into adults
Cringey lines
Disrespecting the original material and thinking their remake is the better version
Brand new characters are added as replacement for one of the main cast in the original
They already messed up one reboot
And that folks is how you can keep precious hours of your time and focus on other better shows. Feel free to add onto the list!
Eiji, holding a old photo of himself: Wow. Where’d you get this?
Ash: I actually hid it behind my dad’s back when I was a kid. I had to hide it under the bed, like porn.
I am no writer but my glob, seeing the PPG CW script, feels so off like what the heck did I read? Every dialogue is edgy and buttercup is a Playgirl lesbian? Uuuuh why? It's so random but i don't mind and Bubbles being a drug dealer??? What?!(very out of character tho) Also, the only adult/teen PPG I like is more than human, is it cliche? At times but it is enjoyable. BUT I do like Some concept so here's my take.
NOTE! I am no writer or good at character arcs but this are merely just ideas.
YOU WANT EDGY? AND ANGST? I'LL GIVE YOU EDGY AND ANGST!
The girls are in College trying their best at their education. The pilot is the PPG fighting Mojo Jojo and leads to his (accidental) death, and that desth is celebrated by Townsville.
Why? Okay here me out, Mojo Jojo to Townsville is a regular villain so it makes sense that they wouldn't feel any sympathy for him (but there are are people who disagree a and hate the PPG for it but they are the minority) and the ones who are affected the most are the Rowdy Ruff boys mostly Brick. This would make a cliche rivalry between the girls but it makes the boys go on the "grey area"? Imo.
Public Image. I like this idea and I intend to keep it but I would apply it to each girls.
First let's start with Buttercup. I intend her to keep her tomboyish and no nonesense attitude, and her concern with public Image is well about how people perceive her. Also no romance, I honestly don’t see her dating tbh. (I "ship" her w/ Butch but I dont see em be a thing here)
She didn't care that Mojo Jojo died, she was shocked of course but she never cared for that crazy chimp anyway, I mean why would she? Out of all the trouble he brought to her and her sisters? She's happy he's gone.
She loves fighting, she loves kicking ass defeating the villains and she will proudly say it. But because of that when she's with her sister out in press (Where she is mostly quiet and shy) she is deem the edgy one or the dangerous one which she hates. She wants to continue being a super hero and a fighter without the name "Powerpuff" to the point she would sneak out at night and be a vigilante (este Raphael from the TMNT 2007 movie style)
She would have falling out with her sisters since they don't feel like getting in to crime fighting that much and would usually get into fights with Bubbles and Blossom (they're no saint either btw)
Her arc would focus more on being more sympathetic and seeing others point of view ( with the help of Butch who would serve more as her bestfriend). She changes a lot after talking to the boys and her sisters, she is still the same buttercup but she's more understanding. This would still keep her like badass attitude while giving her something to learn.
Bubbles, my favourite. What would her arc be? Well it's mostly regret. Out of the sisters, she isn't over about Mojo Jojo's death since she’s not into crime fighting that much anymore unlike her sisters. She felt awful killing him (also she is very much an animal lover), after seeing how Boomer reacted and seeing the small group of protestors claiming that the PPG are inhumane. It broke her.
She also started to resent having powers, as a kid she loves being unique and different but as she grows older she wants to be normal like everyone else. She channels that anger towards her sister and dad (don't worry, proffesor is a good dad here, it’s just projection) she hates how she has the responsibility of being a hero.
This is to contrast Buttercup's more heroic personality. Compared to Bubbles who is this sweet girl turning into this sort of "selfish" but a scared young adult. She doesn't understand why she has to sacrifice her well-being for others.
Buttercup and her would have the biggest falling out, fighting each other like invincible style y'know the "THINK MARK THINK" (cause if they want to keep it edgy and gritty well here it is, also violence)
Her arc would focus whether she wants to continue sacrificing herself for the town and coping trying to get over Mojo Jojo's death. Regaining her bond with her family once more.
Lastly, the commander and the leader Blossom. Now Blossom is going to be stressed as FUCK in this reboot, as she stands in as the leader, she is the one in charge of legal matters (along with a lawyer and her dad ofc. Idk I want her to explore Law more) and she is also in charge a lot of things, keeping up good grades, the towns people (always tries to check up om them after rescuing them) along with trying to keep her sisters in check and the cycle of "It's fine Mojo Jojo is dead" to "I can't believe he's dead, cause we killed him."
She tried to be the stern and emotionless one. She mostly keeps her problems to herself and using her studies as a distraction. She could never open up, they wouldn't understand, she doesn't want to let them see this vulnerable side to her.
Her stress would cause her to also lash out at people. Like her once composed calm nature then into this unhinge angry nature.
She's also in a deep moral conflict, she hates seeing her sisters drift apart, and seeing the towns people question the PPG and her leadership is getting to her.
And because I'd like too, Blossom and Brick enemies to lovers why? Just cause. No, it's because Brick hates Blossom for killing Mojo, and would guilt trip her (sorry start it off as toxic, but they work it out.)
She starts questioning herself as a leader, her team and sisters are falling apart and the towns people question her leadership as well.
She's overwhelmed, she doesn't know who she is anymore, she's a hero to the town, she's a sister to the rest and a daughter to the Proffesor but who is Blossom to herself? Can she even be herself anymore?
One scene would be Blossom crying in front of her sisters. (Which they never seen in decades) Its basically seeing the bloody Buttercup and Bubbles fight. She would cry for them to stop and just break down in front of them. The sisters would stop and try their best to comfort her
Blossoms arc isn't letting go, it's finding herself at peace with herself and other things. Learning to trust her sisters and the people around her and mostly herself. That she cant control her life.
BONUS ROWDY RUFF BOYS things
Butch - Himbo energy, home boy energy.
Boomer - quiet, boy next door energy also emo(?) Sad boi bitch but also very sweet.
Brick - angry, rebel and very gaslighty.
Also in therapy
These are ARCS what I would want, no means better (???) But this is basically a fanfic lmaooo
okay i’m reading the full ppg pilot script and like. it’s bad. it’s really bad. but i’m currently narrowed in on the way they wrote buttercup because—and I don’t know if it was written before the casting, but regardless, how on earth did this almost get greenlit?—the context of her being played by the only woman of color in the trio, coupled with her character being explicitly lgbtq+, makes for a lot of her scenes to read like a gd caricature.
