I'm posting this reflection today, before the day of tomorrow turns out to be a hurricane or a soap bubble, because I need to rationalize the worm in my head, putting it down on paper.

Would Harry's hypothetical attendance at the Met Gala really mark a turning point in the narrative? In my opinion, definitely! Because from any perspective, considering every possible justification, mitigating factor or aggravating circumstance, and after all the recent outcry, mostly negative, his presence at the Gala could not be seen as anything other than a public and blatant confirmation of their "engagement".

Let me be clear, this "confirmation" wouldn't change my perception of Harry as a queer person, nor would it invalidate my belief that Larry Is Real. But I admit it would seriously undermine my faith that things can work out for Louis and Harry positively and soon. Despite all the more or less subtle hints they've both sent out this past year. Because an official engagement, no matter how fake, is something you can't ignore. It's something you can't back down from.

I know there have been even more significant stuff in past years (I can't fully understand why I wasn't a fan back then, and luckily for my mental health, I have to say), bbg, holivia, etc. The point is precisely this: it was a different time. The two boys were still very young and already psychologically trapped in a mechanism that demanded them to be products with an image to sell.

But now things seemed different. They are grown men now. Aware. Experienced. They have gone through yet another terrible loss, which must have forced them to confront the transience of life. Both have said this firsthand. They are certainly still bound by contracts whose true nature I don't think anyone can fathom. But all the elements that could have led us to believe there was finally a concrete plan, a way out, were there.

This is why an "engagement" seems so out of place right now. A pr relationship can be annoying but acceptable. It's a way to continue fueling that segment of public opinion until the right moment arrives. But an "engagement", especially with a partner like that, means pushing the deadline even further, to a date yet to be determined. And that could be a very long time.

And it wouldn't matter if the fake union ended a month or a week later; the narrative would be forever changed. Because it would mean Harry was willing to do something previously thought impossible. He would cross a line thought uncrossable. And, however much he might be induced and influenced, it would be entirely his choice.

I'm just a banal outside observer, I know, but it's so sad to note that precisely at a time when so many cultural barriers are gradually being broken down, also thanks to the phenomenal success of series like Heated Rivalry, Harry and Louis are still tied to such a constructed image.

Still so much love for them but also a little bitterness..
