Shot 17 was fairly difficult to produce, the character animation is a perspective shot and I’m not too good at visualising many perspective shots. This is where I decided to go into Autodesk Maya and use a simple rig to help me with the shot.
I started off animating a simple walk animation using the rig. I then exported it into a PNG sequence and then import it into Toonboom Harmony.
I then sketched over the 3D Animation, the left leg, right leg, waist, body, head and hood were all sketched on separate layers, then changed the width and sizes of the body to match Kai’s phisique more.
Then I lined and coloured the animation
I then rendered the background. Since it was a pan shot, i increased the height by 70% then used content aware fill in Photoshop to extend the sketch drawing further up, It wasn’t perfect but the layout was good for me to work with.
After I lined and coloured the animation, I tweened the frames based on the perspective of the background and added stop motion keyframes in Toonboom to match the framerate of the drawings.
