In case you haven’t heard, I’m just gonna tell you: Birkenstocks have returned. To many, this concept is a little perplexing. How could these chunky, awkward, and – dare I say it? – ugly shoes be the hottest thing in female footwear? But after seeing the Spring 2014 lineup of fashionable shoes, opinions are bound to change.
Inspired by the Birkenstock trend, sport sandals, as the fashion elite has dubbed them, are athletic slip-on shoes and the footwear of choice for spring. Don’t expect street style mavens to rock them with sweats and hoodies: surprisingly, designers sent them down the runway with formal dresses and suits.
Fashion houses differentiate their sport sandals with bold colors and metallics, ankle straps, and even pairing them with leg warmers or socks. Some design houses, like Prada, added huge foam soles to amp up the athletic factor. However, all of them have the common purpose of being a thicker-strapped alternative to your traditional gladiator sandal.
Is it time to throw out your trusty flip-flops? The survey says not yet. Keep them around, since you never know how quickly you may fall out of love with this trend.
Got the courage to try out the trend for yourself?

Will you be wearing the sport sandal this spring?
Or are these shoes not your taste? If you’re going to wear them, are you going to pair them with a suit and formal dress like the designers have shown, or tone it down with a casual look? We’re dying to know what you all think about this one, so leave us a comment below!

This Classic Prada Tote Won’t Steer You Wrong
Two weeks ago, we saw the debut of the Prada Spring 2013 handbag collection, where Muiccia Prada put on a handbag showcase with lots of eccentrism. You name it, it was featured on her handbags: studs, fur, and flower prints just to name a few.
So after the Fashion Week hype and with a little time to digest all of the upcoming bold, vibrant and sometimes unconventional designs, sometimes it’s nice to look back at the classics. A classic is a classic for a reason; it holds a certain charm, charisma and a timeless appeal that will always be striking. For me, nothing beats a Prada classic like the Prada Saffiano Lux Tote Bag.
What’s not attractive about this saffiano leather tote? To be honest, I don’t see any faults. The rectangular structure and double handle top handle (one of my favorite features of any bag) give the bag that ageless and versatile quality. You have the option to hold it in your hand, on your arm, or your shoulder (with an optional shoulder strap, which is not pictured), and each of these different ways will give this bag a different look. The dark green color is one of those rare colors that can be worn from summer through winter and everything in between. The golden hardware with the dainty, iconic triangulate metal logo only compliments this vivid color. The inside is just as exquisite, featuring inside pockets, the logo lining, a zipper divider, and a magnetic button closure.
This safiano tote should be considered when wanting to build your handbag collection. It is more than an investment, that I will admit, but this Prada classic does not disappoint. Buy yours through Neiman Marcus for $1995.

Fashion Week Handbags: Prada Spring 2013
Perhaps this is stating the obvious when speaking of anything wrought by Miuccia Prada, but Prada Spring 2013 was pretty weird. The clothes were a late 60s-Japense geisha mashup that often worked quite well, but hardly anyone who watched the livestream even noticed them, distracted instead by what appeared to be (and actually were, it was confirmed later) leather toe socks paired with almost every footwear look. (And truthfully, the shoes would have been controversial even without the weird leather liners.) Surprisingly, the bags were mostly very conventional and quite pretty.
The standouts included a set of small, ladylike evening bags with delicate chains and the same enamel-and-rhinestone embellishments that constitute a great portion of Prada’s recent costume jewelry line. They’re the kind of bags that women in the 60s carried to chic parties, but with that signature irreverent Prada twist – a cartoon fur flower here, an aggressive rhinestone there. The collection also contained a few interesting totes with interior structure that created a hobo strap, but this time, small and sparkly stole the show. Check out the full gallery of runway shots after the jump.
