I forgot to post this on Sunday. How snug does she look after her walk? I wish it was acceptable for adults to wear pram suits. Why do we allow ourselves to be cold? Also I'm more than a bit in love with her @lottieandlysh #thiskidtho t-shirt 😍. . . #pram #silvercross #lottieandlysh #pramsuit #cosy #sundaywalks #sleeping
Why Ears?
Following on from my post last week about the challenges of finding bright and cheerful, but gender neutral clothes for newborns and in particular the fact that I am currently on the lookout for a nice pram suit. One of the reasons I have started to look early is that I want to find something I like but also I have a few requirements so wanted to give myself plenty of time to find the right thing. I don’t think my requirements are particularly farfetched or unreasonable but so far (and I accept that it is possibly not quite the right time of year yet) it has proved problematic. 1. Something bright and cheerful, white or grey is not only boring but they get dirty very quickly so not very practical. 2. It should be gender neutral as we don’t know what sex squiggle is and we are not planning to find out. 3. I am looking for something made of fleece type material or something similar, this is for a number of reasons. Firstly due to the fact we also have Mr Monster there is a strong chance I will be wearing squiggle in a sling quite frequently and I don’t want them to get too warm, secondly padded snow suits create a safety risk when you are putting the baby into a car seat (see below) Up to now I have managed to find a range of suits that meet my last requirement but not the first two, which was until this week. In a chance post of Facebook I saw a lovely pram suit made of fleece which was navy blue with nice bright foxes on it. In the picture on Facebook it appears to be everything that I am looking for so I went onto the retailer’s site to look at how much it was. That is when I discovered a slight fly in the ointment and rather by accident another requirement that it would appear is going to make my search even more difficult. THIS SUIT HAS EARS!! There is no logical reason for it to have ears; I simply do not understand it why do people feel the need to put ears on baby suits. Ears do not by default make it look cute, they do not add anything to the design or serve any other function there is just no point to them. As you may have gathered I am not a fan of suits with ears. I am also not keen on the pram suits for babies that make them look like someone has emptied the stuffing out of a toy bear or rabbit, added a zip or buttons and then put it on their child. This however is a personal choice and I know many people like them so I have less of a problem with that, they at least have ears for a reason. This suit though is not supposed to look like a fox someone has just chosen to put ears on it. This discovery led me to go and have a look at some of the other suits that are currently on sale and lots of them have ears. While these other suits also don’t meet some or all of my other requirements the fact that they have ears is just one more problem. It also means that if this is currently the fashion for baby suits it is going to make it even more difficult to find something I like that meets my 3 main requirements. So the search continues and I continue to get more and more frustrated by the insistence on gender specific clothing and now it would appear the insistence on adding ears to things that don’t need them. Risks of padded snow suits in car seats If you put a child into a car seat in a padded snow suit there is a risk of them getting to hot once in the car, which has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome. There is also a second problem associated to them, when you tighten the car seat straps while your baby or child is in a padded snow suit they tighten onto the suit. If you are then in an accident the suit will compress meaning that the straps are no longer as tight as they need to be meaning there is a risk that the baby or child can come out of their seat.
