i will NOT hear a foul word in the tags of my post about the LotR movie costume design. those films are a great example of intentional fantasy anachronism. The hobbits’ clothing is more modern because they are a parody of provincial British life and are the audience proxy characters whose journey symbolizes an odyssey into the mythic past. their costuming is internally consistent, as are the costumes of each distinct cultural group within the films.
