Lena took heavy breaths as her eyes narrowed. She was sweaty and her knee was starting to flare up again after incorrectly colliding with the floor a few times... In those moments of split second decisions, she didn't care much of her wellbeing. Lena had a job to do, and she was going to get it done with everything she had.
Silently and still heaving for breath, she watched the other side of the room carefully. Some of their opponents looked frantic while the other stared at her with equal intensity; however, she never shirked away. Rather, she stood straighter... That is until she knee sent another shock of pain up her leg.
She bent over a little, resting her hands on her thighs-- why was it so difficult to regulate her breathing?!
The high pitched sound of a whistle blew, causing the team to look to the referee- he called for a switch in players. Number 12, Adelena, with number 10. Feeling a little dejected, but still understanding fully why she needed to be off the court, Lena let her body relax as she walked to the side to tap her teammate in.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, Captain. Your turn to show them what you're made of!" Lena smiled, taking her number back to the sidelines. However, despite being tended to, her eyes never left the court... This match was still far from over, and the place for semi-finals was still up in the air.
