We had a very scary evening & there are a LOT of massively damaged building & vehicles all across the city. The coronavirus quarantine saved a LOT of lives here. Most of the restaurants, stores, & most of the mall were closed or only had a skeleton crew with no customers inside. Some bags from 1 demolished store were found 16+ miles away in the next county! Vehicles from 1 parking lot were found crushed in other parking lots! Debris was measured on radar at 15,000 feet in the sky. They found a steal beam between 2 stores that was bent into a hook shape & they don’t know where the beam came from. Most of the mall was destroyed along with dozens of other businesses & homes. The local chief meteorologist is estimating this to have been the damage of an EF 3+ tornado that ripped through 3 countries before moving off to Missouri. Jonesboro is the most densely populated city in this region & this thing ripped right through the center of it. & so far, 5 hours into it, there are only 6 injuries with no fatalities. 🙌🏻 The local news were telling people to take shelter even though the NWS had not issued a warning. The tornado touched down. THEN the tornado sirens went off. THEN the NSW issued an alert. I was in my tornado safe spot watching the news on my phone watching clear, live footage from the “sky cams” in the area of this monster tearing through buildings, plowing up a highway with many vehicles on it, & heading in my direction. I’m not going to lie, it was scary as hell. But because of the coronavirus, most of the news & weather people were broadcasting from their homes with their weather equipment & radar which gave them a much better view of what was happening & they were able warn us in time. The first responders had just TWO DAYS AGO set up a large text group with every local first responder in it for if/when the coronavirus hits here hard, & with 1 text, “Send help”, 200+ first responses were activated & started working within minutes, while the tornado was still on the ground in the area!!!
