I have learned to take the preventive measures needed to take care of myself mentally after an out-patient procedure that I was hoping was unnecessary, while understanding that I am not okay emotionally, as most of us aren’t after the last few years. Being able to realize the simplest ways to take care of your mental health are sometimes the most basic. I’m allowing more room to process those feelings and emotions and giving others that same space as well, and recognizing not being okay IS okay right now and my not being okay can affect my loved ones as well as those in my orbit, because they quite possibly are not okay too. So, TODAY, I’m aware that the uncertainty of life and, having a doctor cut, suture and take a lump to biopsy from me, makes enjoying a chocolate Wendy’s Frosty perfectly permissible to eat while in line at Baskin Robbins waiting to buy more ice cream to take it home, get in my bed and eat slowly. I’m not okay, but I’m above ground and full of ice cream, and that pretty okay for this moment in time.
