Goddess Laxmi, The wife of lord Vishnu and the goddess of wealth.Laxmi Pooja is an auspicious occasion. It is done on the day of Amawasya of Krishna Paksha also known as Diwali. It is believed that on this day the goddess blesses their devotees with prosperity and wealth. For this special occasion devotees clean their houses, decorate it with lights and make some sweets. More of the beliefs that the happier the goddess is with them more they will grow.
On the eve of the puja people open their doors and window to welcome the goddess and light the diyas around the balcony and gates.
This pooja is done by every family in Hindu religion to please the goddess of wealth and pray for blessing to their family’s health, wealth, peace and prosperity.
Performing Laxmi Poojan at home needs some preparation:

Here are some of the ideas that will help you in poojan:-
Tidiness is very important: It is believed that the goddess only likes cleanliness and blesses those who perform her pooja at a clean home or place. Before pooja clean the whole house and purify every corner with gangajal.
Set up a dais for poojan. Make a platform for poojan where you are willing to perform whether the puja room, living room or any other part of the house. Place a stool or an object above the ground, place a red cloth on it, and in the centerplace some grains.
Place a lota or kalash: It is called filled with ¾ of the water into it at center of the grains; put some rice, a piece of supari and a flower. 5 mango leaves over the kalash in circular style.
Now place the idol of the goddess laxmi or you can use God’s Photo Frame and Divine currency in the center with idol of the lord ganesha or Photo Frame on right side of the kalash. In a small plate make a little pile of rice, make flower of lotus with turmeric, keep some coins in the plate and place it before the goddess idol. Also if you own a business place your accounts book and other related item in front of the goddess as done by many business owners while doing laxmipoojan. It is believed that placing business books in front of the goddess brings good luck and growth in business.
Light a diya with ghee and put tilak to the goddess with lord ganesha and also the kalash. Present some flowers to the idols and keep some flower in your hand for poojan. Now speak the Diwali mantra by closing your eyes and hands joint as done in prayer keep the flowers in your hand after the mantra ends offer flowers you kept in hand to goddess.
Place a mala on the idol and put some kumkum, haldi and rice to the goddess idol. Keep some sweets, coconut, pan leafs, fruits to offer the goddess as Prasad. Recite the laxmiaarti with a thali in which keep a diya, some burning agarbatti and pooja bell.
These are some normal rituals and ideas to perform laxmipoojan at home. But it can be done in many ways with much more rituals.
