Fic of Yamato being called “mom” please
Oh my God, I can't believe I never thought of that!
This basically became a Misao and Yamato ship fic. #sorrynotsorry
"What did you call me?" Yamato turned around from the table that held all of his medical supplies. He'd passed the examination to become a vet the month before, having decided that zoology would be his retirement, and he was currently working with his dad. He was hoping to open his own clinic by the end of the year.
Amu was standing behind him, grinning from ear to ear as she winked. "I said, when are you going to propose to Misao, Mom?"
Yamato spluttered and attempted to keep a straight face, but utterly failed. "Shush! It's a secret! Also, did you just call me 'mom'?" He set the stethoscope back on the table and turned to Amu, whose smile had turned into pure lazy mischief. Altogether, too much like a cat's to make him feel comfortable.
"Yup. You're the mom friend, don't try to deny it," Tusk announced from the doorway, almost smiling at Yamato's sheer confusion.
"I thought that was Sela?"
"No, she's the big sister. Look, you literally helped us hide our secret from your uncle for a year. It's not like you aren't already a mom." Leo shoved past Tusk, waving a pansexual flag-patterned fan. He closed the fan and bopped Yamato on the head.
"Ouch!" Yamato protested, rubbing his head ruefully. "Stoppit!"
"We'll stop when you propose to him," Sela said, popping out from the kennel area and scaring Yamato half to death.
"How did you even get in here?"
"Mario let us in. He's just as impatient as us, if not moreso," Amu explained, winking again.
"Look, I was going to propose to Misao at the picnic tonight, but that might just have been wrecked by you four and your racket." Yamato peeled off a glove, pulled a small box out of his pocket, and opened it to reveal the ring he'd bought. It was three-stranded, twined in a triple helix shape that was almost like meta-DNA, and each strand was a different color. The three colors, black, silver and gold, revealed that the ring must have been custom-made, because those were Misao's ranger colors.
"Ohhhh... It's so pretty..." Sela sighed in admiration, running her finger along the ring. "I think he'll love it."
"He definitely will," Tusk confirmed. He glanced behind him before continuing. "Now, we should probably get out of here before one of your customers starts complaining that you're not attending to their cat."
The four Zyumans vanished through the door before Yamato could blink, and he snapped the ring box shut before stowing it back in his pocket. Hopefully the surprise hadn't been ruined and he'd be able to propose that night. But that would be a different story entirely.
