PRECAUTIONS FOR LIVING DONORS AFTER DONATION
“The greatest gift one person can give another is the gift of life”. Living donors are those people who put their life at jeopardy for some time to save others life. Recovery plan and procedure for every living donor is different depending on their health condition and etc.
One week after surgery, living donors can start with their normal routine of bathing, getting dresses or simple homely chores or daily routine work. However, they are advised to stay away from any form of rigorous exercise or any kind of work which involves strain. Liver transplant doctor in India suggests the following for a faster recovery process:
1. Hydration: The donor should keep himself hydrated through all the time. If the person is hydrated then it will put lesser pressure on the liver and will help to get the body rid of from all the toxins. This helps in the healing process
2. Healthy diet: Fiber and omega 3 rich food should be consumed. Intake of Vegetables, fruits, spinach, grains should be increased so that the digestion process becomes faster and the patient doesn’t suffer from constipation. Also, antioxidants like berries help a great deal too.
3.Simple easy lifestyle: Simple, stress-free lifestyle should be maintained for some time till the person has recovered. Strenuous exercise should be avoided completely.
The patient may have to go for Regular check-ups and follow up appointments with the transplant team. Once the person has recovered from the surgery, he may be advised to have routine yearly physical exams. The advent of liver transplant in India has changed the lives of many and it continues to evolve.
Generally, a liver takes about six weeks to regenerate fully back to its original size after the surgery thus retaining the patients’ health to normal. Both the donor and patient can lead a normal and healthy life thereafter.
