So, I’ve been playing Precatus for a while now (since it’s been out, pretty much) and, well, it’s more fun than I expected! When the game came out I was all set to do a risemara session until I got 4* Ashley, but he came home at first gacha draw, so yay! (I missed 4* Serafina at the pickup gacha, though. :( Serafina-chaan! I really wanted her, she’s so pretty.)
Getting the bad things out of the way first, unfortunately Precatus has the same game system as for example Senjuushi, ie. there’s a ton of gems and coins and different types of gems of different colors and soul pieces and a million other type of doodads that you have to pay attention to and collect in various different fields and battles, which frankly I find tiring and difficult to follow (seriously guys, I just want a pretty-looking, very simple game). But at least this game makes the tasks a lot more attractive than Senjuushi did, with gorgeous character designs, cute SDs, entertaining enemies, etc.
Another disappointment is that even though there's a great voice cast, most of the game is actually not voiced - most disappointingly the stories themselves. So the only times you actually hear the characters speak is during battles or when you power them up... or if they’re on your home screen. Pfft.
But fortunately there’s many good things to make up for these.
Lack of voice aside, the production values in this game are insane, considering it’s just a silly mobage. Most of the design is detailed and really pretty, the character art is gorgeous, the battle SDs are adorable and they have many different movesets depending on action and weapon (you can equip them with different weapons and they’ll move differently), and I adore the BGM. It’s just so pleasant and soothing to listen to. There’s decent variation in it, but the main theme is so pretty, too.
The battles are fairly standard for this game system, but they’re also decently entertaining thanks to the cute battle SDs and the funny enemies - you’d think it’s only faceless enemy soldiers, but you not only get various types of them, you also get tanks, rabid rats, rabid dobermans, rabid wolves, rabid bald eagles... and this is just the Vellum story, haha.
The weapons are also pretty fun - you can draw them from gacha, and there’s everything from kunai to swords to battle axes, and then the more hilarious ones like scythes, studded gloves, whips, etc. which often has hilarious results when you equip a character with a completely OTT weapon that’s totally out of character for them.
So essentially if you play as say Justin and have studded gloves equipped as weapons, you can go and punch rabid bald eagles in the face, it’s pretty awesome.
Powering up the characters is pretty slow and difficult (unless of course you want to sink tons of money into the game, which I don’t) due to all the doodads you need. But well, for now I’m fine going slow.
As for the story, it’s just as I feared - what with it not being voiced I kind of lack the patience to follow it, and after a while I ended up just skipping through it. There are some choice screens but I’m not sure how (if) they actually influence the outcome of the story. The country you start with is Vellum, and you unlock other countries as you go. I’m not particularly interested in the Vellum characters but I’ll probably pay more attention to the Ordis and Gelida stories.
Well, back to work... play later...
