The Struggle Continues
The struggle continues: a struggle towards liberation, towards freedom to love, where structural oppression, internal repression and interpersonal and institutional sin are removed with the love ethic of Christ. Fighting for the poor is not merely economic; it’s taking on a mindset that struggles for the least of these, towards marginalized peoples and towards those who have been cast aside. Christ had a preferential option for the poor not because God loves the rich less but because society cast the poor, the disabled, the queer, the immigrants, and the uneducated aside and made an anthropological assessment that they were no longer made in the Image of God. Christ reminded us not only that they fully embody Imago Dei, but also that the fullness of our own humanity becomes expressed only when the least of these are reintegrated into community.
