this is an idea i had FOREVER ago and finally i’m drawing it

One day the spirits of the woods chose a skilled farmer to regrow the population of spirits with their own body. Inside the farmer they planted a tree that grows and withers with the seasons, and their bounty is her bounty. Every year the tree blooms and grows with the fruit that will be the new young spirits, and in the late summer and autumn they drop from the tree and are birthed by their mortal mother. The farmer takes much pride in the fact that they were chosen for such an important task, even though the true nature of their pregnancy must be kept a secret. Even in the winter they keep a round, though small, belly as a reminder that their work is never finished.
