Premier Comics in 2016!

Has there been an orange shaped hole in your life ever since your favorite (free) online indie comic anthology vanished back in 2013? Fret no longer, dear readers! Premier Comics will be returning later this year!

There are a lot of exciting things in the works I'd love to share with everyone, but first I'd like to touch on some of the basics, as it's been a long time since we last posted anything here.

In case you've forgotten why you subscribed to this blog, Premier Comics has one mission: To get people making comics. Please check over the "How to Submit" and "Deadlines" sections over on the left. Although they have not been updated yet for the relaunch, the magazine will be run the same as it was in the past. Especially important is to make sure to pay attention to the technical requirements:

>The magazine’s page size is A4 at 200ppi: that works out to 1654×2339 pixels, but it’s recommended you send images at a higher resolution and the same proportion for your final submission. Avoid JPEG compression and save your images in .TIF, .PNG or .EPS formats. Do not use transparency, and save your files in RGB colour. Every comic must feature a title and full credits on its first page. Do not include page numbers on your pages.

The last thing you want to do is create a comic and find out we can't run it! At the moment, we are looking at September 5th as the entry deadline for the Fall 2016 issue, though it may be changed as we work out the details over the summer. There may end up being a Christmas issue following the Fall 2016 issue, but for now we only have one issue planned for this year. In 2017 the magazine will resume it's quarterly release schedule from Spring onwards.

There is still a lot the staff has to do before we're ready for the relaunch, but in the meantime you're welcome to hang out in our Discord server (https://discord.gg/0tD9RZu8RQWWHeds). If you're not familiar with Discord, it's a free program for chatting online, with a web, mobile, and desktop client. Come by and introduce yourself and get to know other folks interested in making comics.

Entry Deadline: March 15th

It's time to mark your calendars! Even though we ran our "final" issue of Premier Pulp Comics last year, who says there can't be more issues? We're planning to develop at least two issues for 2014. The May 2014 issue's entry deadline will be March 15th. In the past we wanted to try and rebrand the magazine with a name that more accurately reflected the indie nature of the comics, but at the moment we're going to stick with the name Premier Pulp Comics. It's just too annoying for the readers to be constantly announcing changes that never amount to anything. On that note, we've decided to axe our side projects Substance and Premier Horror Comics. Neither side project got a substansial enough amount of submissions, and the staff doesn't have the time or resources to dedicate themselves to those projects. Perhaps in the future we will try something again, but not at the moment. If you have any interest in submitting a comic to us, please check our site for more information on the process. http://premiercomics.com/submission-details As a reminder, PPC sees the following kind of submissions: 1. Scripts done by a writer that need an artist 2. Comics written and drawn by artists 3. Scripts done by a writer with an artist already teamed up 4. Artists looking to draw a writer's script In particular, 1 & 4 are more valuable to us than it may seem. People who come in as a team or want to work on their own comic drop out at around the same rate as those who find partners during the submission process. Meaning, you shouldn't understimate the potential of a team endeavor. As a reminder to artists, you only have to work on something you find interesting enough to draw, don't let anyone try and get you involved in their script in any other way. For writers, you job is not done once your script is in the hands of an artist. Check in with them often so that any questions they have about the script can be immediately resolved. Contributors to the current issue: As you may have noticed, this issue has been pretty hectic - both in terms of the upcoming changes around these parts (turns out launching three magazines* requires three times as much work and that websites, annoyingly, don't build themselves if you just leave them to their business), and as a result of employment and academia and other trivial non-comics-related things. Deadlines are going to be flexible this issue as a result, and since it's the last ish - if you feel like your project is dragging on as a result of a delay on our end, don't worry, you'll have the time to make up.

If you have anything really urgent you need, yell at us via email indicating as such in the subject and we'll bump you to the top of the queue for responses.

A more manageable structure for these sorts of things is going to be one of the biggest behind-the-scenes changes from Pulp to Panel Beat. Speaking of which, if you - as a reader or contributor - have anything you'd like to see done differently in PB, by all means let us know in the coming weeks.

Announcing... PANEL BEAT

Pulp is coming to an end this June. What's next for Premier Comics?

Panel Beat. Starting in August, Panel Beat will be released on the same bimonthly schedule as Pulp - so the deadlines will line up like they always have. Entry submissions will be taken in early July, following the last release of Pulp. The technical requirements remain the same (pages are A4 at 200ppi - 1654*2339 pixels).

We want to give our readers and contributors a better look at the process of making comics in PB, and give our intrepid comickers an even bigger stage to show off their craft. We'll talk about what we'll be doing differently as the time approaches.

Panel Beat will be accompanied later in the year by two new anthology specials. Stay tuned for the deets!

Two reminders:

The entry deadline for June's issue of Premier Pulp Comics is 1 May! That's pretty soon, you guys! Email us with a script, outline, thumbnails or whatever else you can scrape together for your entry submission by then and get on board.

June's issue will be Pulp's last (read our editorial in this month's ish for a little more info), before it's succeeded by title-not-quite-finalised-enough-to-reveal-yet. This is your last shot to see your name strung up in big pulpy lights!

We'll also be opening submissions for some other collections we're putting together in May. And that URL in the image should start working about then. Stay tuned.

Also we hit 250 followers which is a solid, like, quarter of our readers, so thanks you sexy beasts.
