Today we’re excited to announce a variant of G-series, the GS-series, which combines the compute power of G-series with the performance of Premium Storage to create powerful VMs for your most storage and compute intensive applications.
Premium Storage combined with the G-Series VM SKU is going to provide some crazy options around high-speed storage in your Azure deployments. The new GS5 (Instance size code Standard_GS5) will be able to pull up to 80,000 IOPS and deliver 2,000 MB/s of storage throughput. That’s an insane number when you’re looking at other public cloud computing vendors. And that’s all in addition to the standard 20 Gbps of network bandwidth that’s included with the G-Series today.
This post also snuck in the announcement of a new VM diagnostic feature:
In addition to our VM updates, we are also excited to announce a new diagnostic capability for VMs – the ability to see serial and console output from a running Virtual Machine. This will help customers diagnose VMs that may be suffering from boot or runtime failures.
I have a feeling the ability view console output is going to be a boon to some of you.
