Present Past Problems
Corporal Levi stumbled as he tried to get away from the people chasing him. They had caught him at a time when he was unarmed and defenceless. They he’d their weapons, he had nothing.
The four men after him were traders from a company that had grown a lot since their beginning. They used to be a poor company who sold manly to the underground district. Now they’d advanced enough to be selling to the citizens of the capital. When Levi had lived in the underground he’d stolen enough from them over the years to amount to a small fortune. He’d set them back years in their goals to get where they are now. It seemed they’d been waiting a long time to make him pay for that.
They’d been patient, waiting until Levi had come into the capital before making a move. They’d gotten him in a deserted area and the four of them had beaten him to a bloody pulp. He’d fought back of course. But it was four of them, armed with clubs, guns and knives against him who had nothing. The setting hadn’t helped him at all either. They’d been in a narrow alley, only one exit plan, and they had used the element of surprise. Then they’d taken out their anger on him. Thankfully he was able to slip away.
Levi ran as fast as he could from them. If he could just keep going long enough for them to get tired of chasing him then he would be in the clear. Eventually they did, not before they’d fired off a few shots as well. Thankfully not all of them had hit him.
Levi slumped back against the wall and slid to the ground. He was too weak to lift himself back up to get help. Instead he stayed where he was, sitting, leaning back against the brick wall of a small alleyway. He turned his head and touched his fingers to his cheek bone. He brought them away to see the blood shining on his fingers. It was the only injury on his head but somehow it annoyed him the most out of all of them. He hated the feeling of the blood running down his face and knowing it with soon turn dry and messy. He looked up, watching as a few strangers passed by on the street leading to the alley. Then he saw a familiar face. Figuring it was this or let himself slowly bleed to death he went for it.
“Hey!” Levi called out.
