Mothers can only do so much for their sons without the help of a father.
“You must set a good example for him. I can count on you, yes?” His mother pleaded, somewhat apprehensive, very much dubious of the man designated to care for her son, but in truth, it was out of her control, as was most of her life. Mattisaux chose to service and protect his home of Ishgard just like his late father, though she wanted to have some sort of reassurance that her son would not fall into any excessive hardship he couldn’t get out of.
“He will be under our fine care and my guidance; he is not the first young man we took in after losing their fathers. In the name of your late husband, a most honored dragoon, he will grow into one of our strongest and most capable soldiers yet.” An Elezen with a face as shady as a midnight sky put on a sly smile for the worried woman, hoping to allay any fears or concerns. “He will learn many lessons in the military, all of which that will enrich his mind, body, and heart.”
Whispers and rumors surrounded the man, none that could be traced or proved. Some that may or may not have been the cause of some soldiers falling into a life of dishonor, debauchery, and death, yet somehow several blind eyes were turned every single time and fingers point anywhere else but for him.
Despite the nagging in her heart telling her that something wasn’t right, she could do nothing but watch and wait for her son’s life to enfold before her.
