Zipcar Review: Ford Pride Focus Colabella
In celebration and support of SCOTUS’ ruling on same-sex marriage I decided to celebrate by renting Zipcar’s Pride Ford Focus Colabella from Icon Parking on W 51 St between Broadway & 7 Ave in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. I booked this car expecting to find a Ford Focus Sedan covered in a rainbow in support of LGBT pride, similar to this:
What I found instead was a whit Ford Focus Hatchback with the usual Zipcar logo, the only exception was that a small dot in the Zipcar logo was replaced by a rainbow sticker. Fair to say, this was a lot tamer than what I expected to find.
(Typical Zipcar Ford Focus Hatchback for comparison)
Despite this the Ford Focus Hatchback was a pleasant ride. This Focus, like all the other Ford Focus cars I’ve driven featured Sync connection for phone, with standard phone controls on the steering wheel, a highly powerful AC, and a stiff steering wheel.
After getting in the car I was able to pair my iPhone 6 within 60 seconds, and was thus connected to Sync. Driving around Manhattan is made a little easier with the blind spot mirrors that a helpful when switching lanes. However, the small back window makes it harder to pull out of parking spots.
Turning corners, is not as smooth as the Focus’ Japanese and European competitors, as the steering wheel was very stiff making the car harder to control.
