IN WHICH A MAGE WITH A LIVING HAT SEEKS TREASURE AND CIGUL IS DISGRUNTLED.
AND FINALLY ANOTHER ONE DONE.
Sorry if I got your character wrong, Pride. Felix seems like a fun character, regardless. :>
"I can see something! It's over there! Come look!"
His focus on their current collection of loot broken, Cigul twirled on the spot in a panic, his remaining eye wide. That voice sounded far too distant for his own comfort.
He dropped the shard of malachite he'd been fawning over and darted through the cavernous tunnels. The passage twisted and spiralled as he flew, his gem lighting up the shards of quartz that lined the cave walls. It opened into a massive cavern, with a large lagoon encompassing the area - small, rocky islands scattered about the water.
He spotted a certain furry, orange creature - donning a hat that seemed alive - jumping from island to island.
'FELIX! COME BACK HERE!'
The mage spun on the spot after having landed upon the next rock, and he turned to face the Fleck, speeding towards him.
"I see a shiny!" He beamed. "A real pretty one!"
'I do not give twenty-three tosses!' The Fleck cried, throwing his scarf arms into the air. 'Get yourself back to the loot pile! You cannot swim!'
Cigul's words fell on ears growing more and more distant from his position. Felix wasn't having any of it. Ever since he'd run into the kid a couple of months ago, he'd been tagging along with both him and Miral's heists and treasure huntings since.
The little mage didn't seem to have a basic grasp on what either Fleck was doing - no citizen was allowed in the underground due to the riches that lined the sacred caverns. If any of them were caught, they would likely be arrested - or even killed for their offences.
Cigul's scarf arm lashed out to grab Felix's collar.
IF they were caught. The good thing about being small, fast and cute is that nobody suspected you - or could catch you.
The kid, however, had given them a few close calls since he began tagging along. And he always seemed to know where to find them next, even if they'd done their best to shake him - suddenly he was running down the street waving at them happily and asking about their next adventure.
Miral never says no to him. Cigul thought with a sigh. Felix had stopped his island-hopping, and was now staring up at the Fleck, beady eyes glittering, attentive.
"Are you gonna get the shiny, too?" He beamed, and the Fleck bapped him on the nose.
'You shouldn't be out here! You are a tiny little child! You're too slow and too weak and you'll be the death of us all!'
Felix gave a sulk. "I'm taller than you."
'That is not the point!' The veteran treasure hunter groaned. 'Now come along - back to the loot pile! Miral and I will get the shiny later. When she returns from the surface with bread for you.'
The mage's expression brightened instantly at the mere mention of food. He took a hop in the opposite direction of his goal, and Cigul gave a sigh of relief, drifting alongside the mage as he made his way back to the tunnel.
Relief turned to alarm upon hearing an incredibly loud rumble from behind them - and the treasure hunter instantly jolted at the sound of a deep growl. The two spun on the spot as the cavern shook - a large being from Felix's former destination was rising from the water… several times their size combined.
A stalk protruded from the top of its partially-submerged body. The tip glowed brightly, akin to a lantern of sorts.
Felix was over the moon. "There it is! The shiny!"
By all the 22 deities...
'Run! Run! That's a bad shiny! We don't touch that shiny!' Cigul shrieked, pushing the mage in the opposite direction. Felix jumped to the next stone with a giggle, but the monster was catching up. Its mass and strength was enough to completely disintegrate each rock it collided into.
"Oh nooo!" The mage laughed. "Bad shiny!"
'Run or you'll be eaten, you brat!' Cigul cried, looking back at the quickly-approaching creature. To the Cursed Ones with this, he wasn't going to stay here any longer!
Felix took another leap forward. He was only two jumps away from the tunnel.
"No, I won't!" The mage proclaimed. "Nobody can get me!"
Felix spun on the spot to face the exasperated Cigul with a smile. Then, he spotted the creature, nearly right on their tails - a gaping maw, filled with thousands of suckers - had risen out of the murky waters. Its throat was lined with anemones, all glowing from within.
The mage blinked, perplexed. Cigul slowly and shakily floated over to him, his voice taken by fear.
'… Th-they might… just…' He placed his scarf arms on both shoulders. ' y-you run, you little nit… you go back to Miral quickly… I'll try distracting him… you just…'
The Fleck was cut off by a sudden blast of orange energy, flying past him and into the cavernous mouth. A loud roar sounded in response, and Felix leapt up into the air, grasping onto a low-hanging stalagmite, expressionless. He hurled another two balls of energy at the creature, who recoiled at their force.
The little mage leapt upon the closing maw, and clambered up to stalk to where the little lantern swung. He ripped it off with a few tugs, and a loud screech echoed throughout the entire cavern as the creature hurriedly re-submerged with a roar, Felix leaping off its back to land at the tunnel entrance.
Cigul stared at the lagoon for a very long time. Longer than it took for the ripples to fade.
All the while, Felix stood by him. Silently and patiently.
"Um."
The Fleck slowly turned to face the mage, who was still grasping the bauble of light and looking at him inquiringly - almost cautious.
"… I took the bad shiny." He said, almost guiltily.

Miral returned from the surface later that day to find a sleeping Felix, lying down next to the loot pile, a strange almost organic-looking light clutched in both paws. She could feel the exhaustion of her partner-in-crime as he hovered over to her, and the two settled down upon their hard-earned treasures.
'Too much of a nightmare for you?' Miral asked, with a giggle. 'He's a handful, but I like him!'
Cigul didn't say a thing, and rare concern flickered upon his partner's features.
'… did something happen, today? … if he nearly got us caught out again, we can try ditching him near a village again…'
Her partner quickly shook his head, and relaxed upon the pile some more - the two Flecks snuggled against one another, their eyes on an opal shard Miral had nicked the other day.
I felt like draw something interesting since I was getting into an art rut for some reason. So I drew Hat Shadow; PrideAlchemist7's OC from dA. Check her out, her art is awesome.
I probably messed up the colors and all that stuff...egads, I need work. If anyone has comments on what I can do better, let me know.
