The first block for my Pride quilt is finally finished! And just in time to still be considered Pride month, whew. While I try to keep my social and political views private, the LGBTQ rights movement has always been something I hold dear. Growing up, I only had my mother’s side of the family to look to, and they have always been heavily religious. When I got older, and began questioning my own sexuality, I didn’t really have anyone to talk to. My mother didn’t understand or really approve, my brother and I weren’t very close yet and he had his own identity issues to deal with, and my father just never really got it. I felt alone. I hid myself, finding it easier than ever trying to explain my preferences to my family. And then my close friend from school came out as gay, and finally there was someone who understood. I grew, and we found a community of people who would accept us for everything that we were, and I am so proud to call myself queer. I love all of you, and just know that you are never alone. #pride #pridemonth #pride2017 #quilting #quilt #pridequilt #panpride #pansexualpride 💗💛💙
