Jack walked up to his mother and gave her a hug. "Merry Christmas, Mom," he said stepping back and holding out a present. He hoped she would like the glittery silver scarf he got her.

"Jack..." Her voice wavering when he broke the hug and presented the gift box. It dawned on her that in all the hub-bub of moving and patients and robots... She'd failed to get him something in return.

She missed Christmas.

"Oh, honey, it's beautiful," she breathed, blinking away the tears that threatened to ruin her smile. "Thank you... Very much. Merry Christmas. I-... I'll- We'll go out soon. I promise. You can pick where we eat."

No salary was starting to become an issue.
