Was scrolling the Cosmic Horror tag on AO3 (as I am wont to do) and saw a summary for a story called A Twist to a Story We Already Know by Astell465 and Crown354Royale (in case you want to look it up) that had a line that went something like: "to rewrite the fate of so many other Knights and Princes that stumbled upon the King" and I FINALLY GET IT NOW I finally understand why Avery is referred to as the Prince in so many AUs! Because a Prince is the successor to a King, and the King wants to use Avery as a vessel for itself, transferring its power into a new ruler, so to speak. I understand it now!
This whole time I thought it was because people liked the knight x prince dynamic, so I kinda dismissed it because I prefer Avery as Just Some Bloke(TM), but I finally understand it now.
Anyway, time to make a case for Prince Abel and Knight Ianius. No solid ideas just yet, but I'm thinking about it.
