Puella Magi Madoka Magica! : O
Oh, this is another case of “Curi knows best”. She will delight in hearing me confirm once again that, yes, she was right all along about this series being totally up my alley.
So I met Curi the day after I finished Mother 3 back in February, and after a while of talking she came to know my “type” of fandom. She mentioned Mami one day and showed me gifs of her fighting Charlotte’s familiars. After sending me links to “Credens justitiam” and “Puella in somnio”, she told me to go watch it, and that it was really good and only 12 episodes long.
I, of course, being the curmudgeonly skeptic I am, said, “Eh… I don’t really like magical girl shows….”
This devolved into her disbelief at me never watching Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura, but those are other stories altogether….
Once my summer break started and I had loads of free time, my friend Soni went off on a tangent about how much she loves PMMM while we were outlining the fic we were cowriting. She was so enthusiastic that I thought, “Well… maybe it is that good….”
So I watched it. In two days.
I made the fortuitous choice mistake of watching episodes 9 through 12 while sleep deprived, so by the last scenes of episode 10 my eyes were stinging. This had devolved into full-on ugly sobbing by episode 11, and it only grew worse during episode 12.
Since I’m the masochistic kind of person who develops a deep and abiding love for the things that eviscerate me emotionally, I fell all over myself over Homura and Madoka, and later Mami and Sayaka and Kyoko. This is probably the first fandom in which all the main characters are my favorite, and this makes it very precious to me. .___.
Needless to say, once I ranted about how I felt about it to Curi, she crowed that she knew it. This is how she convinced me to play Kid Icarus: Uprising, and… yeah.
Oh gosh this is so long. I’m sorry.
