Hi! I just wanted to say after seeing your Dynasty warriors posts on my dash for a while, I decided to pick up DW8 and I'm really liking it uvu I've played quite a few of the games but never got into the story, and you've made me want to learn about the characters and stuff so thank you
Really, even if playing a game with so many characters to try and weapons to choose from and thousands of enemies to beat in each stage is lots of fun in itself, it's always all the better if you actually care for the characters and the story… otherwise, it gets repetitive and pointless really soon. These games are so much more enjoyable if one gets a bit into the historical background and all the legends and fiction that Asia has created based on the Three Kingdoms era, because the games alone don’t have enough “time and space” to tell you about all the amazing things that makes us fans love these series.
DW8 has lots of improvement from previous games too! A crazy new amount of characters, even more weapons… and very different and gorgeous scenery in the many stages available! Many people used to complain that DW stages were looking boring and repetitive, but look at this now! XD The gameplay in general is so improved, all that has to do with playability is better than ever really (for DW Empires too!!!) Except for the many bugs in the game though, luckily they released lots of patchs to solve that but I hope they don’t hurry so much for DW9. Ambition Mode is cool too, I hope they improve many aspects of it to make it even more interesting >w< The many little things like the characters lines and dialogues depending on which facility you place them are lovely and adds a lot to their personalities (thank god because some of them don’t even appear in story mode lol)
On the other hand, I feel like they care less and less about storytelling, character development and those things and while the new scenery is beautiful and varied and the new characters designs are a blessing too, the rest of the art direction is just as much a mess as the writing. They included the “Historical Mode” in DW7 and DW8 and it’s great, but there is so much more in the source material, yet they stick to just a couple of traits for each charater and even some of the most tragic cutscenes are for the most part very lame compared to what I imagine reading the novels or real history, and also compared to the quality of the other DW games… I mean what the hell is going on with those shadows, the bad voice volume and bad translation, and where are all the feels that the cutscenes in DW5 and even DW6 -as bad as people say DW6 is- gave us? I mean, I know that new fans or first-time-playing-DW gamers will still think DW8 scenes are great, but compared to the intensity of some of the previous games storytelling, the good angles and lighting, etc. they are clearly getting lazy on this and I hope they work on it again!
I hope you enjoy it a lot! Let me know what you think of it!
