In the latest sneak peek of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview, the Duchess of Sussex explained to Oprah Winfrey why the couple is speaking out.
She knew what she was getting into (theoretically). To turn around 2 years later and say "wow I had no idea that I would be so stifled" and to play the victim is just absurd. She knew that as a member of the royal family she couldn't just schedule a tell-all with the media whenever she wanted. In fact, she TRIED (by her and Oprah's own admission) to schedule the Oprah interview BEFORE THE WEDDING EVEN TOOK PLACE and was told she couldn't. Which means *before she even married him* she knew what was and wasn't possible.
She knew that she didn't get to voice her political opinion - ESPECIALLY about US politics (as that would have made her a member of a foreign monarchy weighing in on international politics). She knew that she would have to take the good with the bad, "never complain, ever explain" and all that in exchange for living in a literal palace, then a large country estate, having a wedding that cost tens of millions of dollars, a wardrobe that in 1 year totaled nearly $1million, etc.
There's a lot of talk of the young royals trying to one-up each other in public, but the truth is more complicated
I’m not sure where this meandering article on the “upstaging” is trying to go.

Piers Morgan stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain on March 9 after being called out by co-presenter Alex Beresford for his continued criticism of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
During the episode, Alex spoke about the "overwhelming amount of negative press" the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received over the years and how this has been "incredibly damaging" to their mental health, which the couple discussed during their recent tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. He then addressed Piers' commentary on Meghan, specifically.
"I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle. You've made it so clear a number of times on this program—a number of times," Alex said. "And I understand that you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her."
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will speak about their estrangement from the royal family during their March 7 interview with Oprah Winfrey, a source told E! News, calling it "a very tense situation."

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s #Prince_Harry says it took him many years and the experience of living with his wife, the former #Meghan Markle, to understand how his privileged upbringing shielded him from the reality of unconscious bias. Harry talked about racial inequality and social justice in a video discussion with the Black Lives Matter activist Patrick Hutchinson as part of the GQ Heroes Conference, which is being broadcast this week. “Unconscious bias, from my understanding, having had the upbringing and the education that I have, I had no idea what it was,” Harry said. “I had no idea it existed and then, sad as it is to say, it took me many, many years to realize it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife’s shoes.” Harry, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, was raised in the royal family and educated at the exclusive prep school Eton before serving in the British Army. He married Meghan, a biracial American TV star, in 2018 in a church filled with royalty and celebrities. The couple stepped away from royal duties earlier this year, saying they wanted to become self-sufficient. In August, they moved to a multi-million dollar estate in California’s Santa Barbara County. The prince described the social justice movement as train that “has left the station” and said now is the time for everyone to do their part to make the world a better place. “You can’t really point fingers, especially when it comes to unconscious bias,” Harry said. “But once you realize or you feel a little bit uncomfortable, then the onus is on you to go out and educate yourself because ignorance is no longer an excuse.” Hutchinson, a personal trainer, was thrust into the spotlight in June when he was photographed at a Black Lives Matter protest in London carrying an injured counter-protester to safety. Harry, speaking from his home in California, praised Hutchinson for his selflessness. Full Coverage: Entertainment “You just came in, you did what was necessary and you saved a life,” Harry said. “And in doing so, you have changed the narrative for those protests.” Hutchinson said he attended the protest to make sure the protesters didn’t do anything they would regret.
