tbh this has been my theory for a WHILE now
honestly, same.
and i was thinking about it but like. out of all of the line up of the new avengers, who’s most likely to be emotionally manipulated and guilted? you won’t get steve like that, because once steve’s made up his mind you can forget it. and you can’t have steve and tony together on an issue because they become a solid brick wall.
tony accosted at the funeral? emotional manipulation. cap and tony separated while the avengers debate? that’s just smart tactics not letting them have a chance to air out what they have to say and come to a solution - because think about it, you know, before this steve and tony have had disagreements but they’ve always worked them out. the actual big blow ups between them are actually super rare. my money, honestly, is that if they’d both been there they’d have found a mutually satisfying solution and cw would be over before it started. miriam sharpe’s repeated emphasis on certain things? the action figure bit (low, honestly, so low)? her being the face of stamford? all in the emotional manipulation column.
like. i know tony had his predictions, you know, on how it was gonna go, and he’s a smart guy, but i don’t think he took his own, actual vulnerabilities into consideration, and they hit him right where he was soft. they hit him in his guilt, and lbr, you know shield had files and psychological work ups of him. the people in power would know just how to hit him. and then he’s put into place as director? and still can’t do anything about anything? mmm that feels like figureheading him, which they were.
and honestly, what better way to drive home the need for shra and build their own personal little superhero army than winding up the two leaders of the avengers and letting them swing at each other. bitter are the wars between brothers, yadda yadda, like. it was supposed to be a shitshow. and i think everyone played their part perfectly and went as predicted and honestly??? considering how luskin/skull had his fingers in everything i can’t even say cap’s assassination wasn’t actually more connected than it already seems.
like. maybe i need to be like pinning shit up on my conspiracy theory board or w/e but. that shit was planned, y’all. that shit was planned.
