The 1963 #Fender "Tuxedo" Princeton is currently in the capable hands of my #amp tech @marshalllespaulfan to fix the malfunctioning tremolo, resolder a detached footswitch wire and just give it a general checkup. Hopefully he'll make some recommendations for tonal improvements too...not that you can improve the sound of this amp much! . Purchased from @theguitarshopca a few years ago for a real bargain price, I won't mind fiddling with this one to improve it because it's already a "player", with a changed speaker and God only knows what other internal components. But at least the exterior (faceplate, cab, tube chart, tolex, and grill cloth) is original and it is an incredible sounding amp so I don't mind at all that it's not 100% stock. . One of the coolest things about bringing your amp to @marshalllespaulfan for servicing is that he gives you a full written report on your amp, which includes a list of what parts are original and what parts have been replaced. When I bought the amp the shop told me it was formerly owned by a gigging musician that kept the internals up to date for reliability on the road...so I expect that the stuff that wears out (like the capacitors) have been already changed. I'll be curious to find out about the transformers as well. Yes I know I could have checked that myself very easily...and I probably did when I first bought it...but my memory is spotty at best in my old age! 😆 . Looking forward to getting this one back in better sonic shape than it already was! . . #fenderprinceton #princetonamp #whiteknobprinceton #fender6g2 #fenderfriday #guitar #guitars #amps #amplifiers #vintageguitars #vintageamps #fenderamp #vintagefender #tubeamp #tone #guitargear #guitarsdaily #guitarsofinstagram #geartalk #guitarsdaily #fendersofinstagram #guitarphotography #ampphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/CCJM9ABhUpK/?igshid=12c3uxhkjhibj
1971 Fender Princeton

I know it's #GibSunday, but #Fender! So there! 😁 Let me tell you about the new #tweed 1959 #Princeton #amp, unexpectedly purchased from my friends at @tgscan yesterday. It's kind of weird...But in a great way! First, you do know that I also own a 1957 #5F1 Champ right? Right. So I can compare the two. And everything I have read about the #5F2A Princeton says it is basically a 5F1 Champ #circuit but with an added tone control and power switch. The Princeton has the same #tube/#valve compliment and 8" #speaker as the Champ. But...The Princeton comes in a bigger box, and for me this makes all the difference. I live in a place where I am not able to really crank my #amps without significantly annoying the neighbours, so I am limited by how much I can turn them up. The tweed Champ is legendary for being the sound of "#Layla" when it is dimed out...But I can't get away with that where I live! As a result I have never been able to get a truly great sound out of my Champ at home (although cranking it at @rpcc2's and @desmo_damo's places has proved that it does sound awesome when played at higher volumes!). So my champ has always sounded mid-rangy and small, and this has always disappointed me on some level. What has gotten me so excited about the #Princetonamp is that the bigger cabinet of the seems to take care for this low volume/midrange issue despite all the amp specs and speaker being roughly equivalent: I can play it at lower lower volumes and it sounds much bigger than the Champ does at low volumes. And I cannot tell you how happy this makes me! 😁 #vintageamps #vintageguitars #vintagefenders #duosonic
