VeronaHills, Round Twenty Four: Printer Sisters (Uni)
Dot could now confidently write a song about near-death.
It would be a new theme for the Printer Sisters discography, who favoured slick instrumental breaks in between lyrics about pouring whiskey over the establishment, but Dot saw a lit match being thrown into that in her mind's eye. She just wanted to cook a nice dinner to celebrate her and Daisy making the finish line of university, but the hellfire that consumed the roast had other ideas. It was pure luck that the volunteer student firefighter club had been in their gear for clubs day, and Daisy was running late back from her date at the beach, otherwise two thirds of the band could've just... gone. Dot felt like throwing up at the thought of JoAnn being left as the solo act, with an audience of pitying eyes.
Make the most before the hellfire comes to raise a glass and toast to the end... pity eyes that cannot see the empty stage of all the things that could've been... Dot hummed work-in-progress lyrics to herself as she sponge-bathed at the downstairs bathroom sink, her immediate response to the shock being to toss her smoke-ridden clothes and scrub off the heat. Closing off the student era of the Printer Sisters could only be a good thing now. The firefighters had been hella gorgeous in their gear; Dot never wanted to see them again. Only JoAnn, and Daisy, and Helen inviting them to stay in her newlywed cottage while they scrounged up their new band digs.
Fresh air and only metaphorically fire tunes.
