Eddie feels that this turd-cherry-on-top-of-the-shit-sundae situation can be summed up pretty succinctly with a line from Star Wars that he may or may not be remembering correctly: Who is the greater fool, (or something like that) asked Obi Wan Kenobi, the fool or the fool who follows him?”

This series is such a wonderful exploration of Richie and Eddie’s relationship through the years. The characterization of Eddie in this one is so uniquely written and absolutely a BLAST to read. This one made me laugh, made me seriously reconsider some aspects of their relationship in the best way. And honestly? Best part- two words: practice kissing. Need I say more? Don’t miss this one. Five stars.

I knew the minute I decided to do Fic Rec Fridays that I’d pick this one first. This is by far one of my favorite pieces to come out of this whole fandom. It’s so cleverly and intelligently written, with a phenomenal sense of humor infused into the whole thing. I frequently found myself laughing out loud to many scenes, much to the chagrin and confusion of those around me. Not only is it an interesting and unique au (at least from what I’ve seen coming out of the fandom), it’s also compelling, with a well-rounded plot that feels whole and satisfying. This fic got me through a particularly grueling work trip (most of my breaks were spent binge reading as much of it as possible, to save my sanity from a week and a half of overnights travelling to other stores and spending nine hours mindlessly counting towels) and it will certainly entertain you. My utmost regards to the wonderfully talented author. Five stars. ♡

“He knelt on his own board to match Richie’s exact posture. ‘To be fair, I don’t know  what we’re trying to do here. Not everything.’ Eddie knew what he’d signed up for. A surfing lesson, advertised as a you-are-one-with-the-board Zen experience. But he still wanted a list of the activities they were going to go through. An itinerary. Eddie craved an itinerary. ‘I tried to ask you what we were doing before and you told me we were taking surfboards out of your truck.’

Richie rubbed over his mouth with one hand. He walked his knees back until he was at the edge of the board and dropped gracefully to his chest. Balancing himself on his arms, he arched his back a bit to keep his head up. ‘I’m gonna teach you how to surf, and it’ll be relaxing.’ He lowered himself and leaned his chin on the board, looking up at Eddie with raised eyebrows. ‘If you let it be.’”

It’s no small sign of quality to tell you that I check this one religiously for updates. A fic like this is hard to come by, with its unique and lively concept and tone that makes you feel a certain snappy since of lightness as you read. It has a clever narrative that makes you laugh even at the descriptions, and especially at some of the dialogue. I’m always impressed with every update and wait excitedly for more. I can’t rave enough about how unique a lot of aspects of this au are; while I’m a huuuuge sucker for overused tropes this one doesn’t really see many of them. It’s well worth your time and well worth the wait for more. Five stars. <3

But holy shit is this piece one of my favorites. It’s filled with some amazing characterization, classic Richie hijinks and probably one of the most relatable versions of Eddie I’ve ever connected with in a fic. You’re really missing out if you haven’t read this one yet. Five stars. ♡

I’ll preface this by saying that I’m really not that big of a Disney fan, especially their more ‘classic’ material. So I think it speaks volumes that this entirely Disney centric piece had me HOOKED right out of the gates. Amusements parks are a fave of mine though, and though I’ve only been to Disneyland I can still feel the wonder through Sara’s writing. The characterization and dynamics in this fic is spot fucking on, like I LOVE the way the losers are written here. It’s so much fun to just enjoy scenes of them all interacting and being cute as shit. Also, I’m a huge fucking sucker for stenbranlon, and this is probably one of my favorite stenbranlon fics ever. Even though this one is incomplete, it’s so worth getting into. I’m so goddamn excited for more. There’s a great balance between the ships, a truly wonderful concept that is Jungle Cruise Richie, and the sweetest version of Ben Hanscom that I want to hug and protect. Don’t miss this one. 5 stars. <3
