ARCADE FIRE WRITER/DIRECTOR EMILY BOCK WINS PRISM PRIZE

Montreal filmmaker Emily Kai Bock was pronounced winner of the 2014 Prism Prize for her writing and directing work on Arcade Fire’s “Afterlife” music video at at a VIP reception held at The Everleigh in T.O. last night.

Bock's almost eight-minute dramatic interpretation imaginatively threads a story together about three generations of men, whose nightly dreams helped them to process the death of a family matriarch.

A Prism Prize Audience Choice Award was presented to director Kheaven Lewandowski for The Belle Game's “River”.

Also honored during at the event last night, writer/director Scott Cudmore and producer/cinematographer Michael Leblanc, who accepted the inaugural Arthur Lipsett Award that recognizes an innovative and unique approach to music video art.

The inaugural Prism Prize Special Achievement Award, presented to a Canadian music video artist for their artistic achievements and exceptional contribution to music video art on a world stage, went to Floria Sigismondi.

The Prism Prize is a national, juried award recognizing the artistry of the modern music video in Canada.

More than 100 Canadian music and film industry professionals – including members of the print and web media, broadcasting, film, radio, and video art communities – nominate the 10 best videos of the year to comprise the Prism Prize shortlist.

The Prize is awarded based on artistic merit, as jurors are asked to consider originality, creativity, style, innovation and effective execution when selecting the best video of the year.

ARCADE FIRE LEADS WITH TWO ENTRIES IN PRISM PRIZE LIST

Arcade Fire's "Reflektor" and seven-minute long "Afterlife" make this year's short list in the annual celebrating Canadian music videos.

The 2nd annual celebrating Canadian music videos is set for March 23 when a jury voted winner is to be presented with a check for $5,000. In addition to the Grand Prize announcement, the awards reception will include presentations of the Audience Choice Award, the Prism Prize Special Achievement Award for artistic achievements and exceptional contribution to music video art on a world stage, and the Arthur Lipsett Award for innovative and unique approaches to music video art.
