Protecting Your Blog Website
Would you like having a complete stranger, or even worse your own relative snooping around your personal information? In the wrong hands, this can create many serious consequences for you. If you leave your folders seen on your WordPress website it's exactly the same thing as letting anyone searching though your private folders or files. Your website’s content, plugins and folders could be seen all over the web or possibly the world if you aren’t keeping them classified or protected.
Any person who knows a little something about this can hack into your files by searching through them and basically locating these three folders which means they were successful into hacking into your Wordpress blog or possibly your personal website.
Fortunately there is a rather easy and free method to keeping your blog protected from such malicious visitors.
-Create a blank index page - open up any of your favorite WYSIWYG html editor, or basically any text editor that works.
Create a blank html page, and save that file and name it as the index.html page.
You could also add your personal message somewhat similar to this: "Not Authorized to View This Page." You could get really creative with this, and even add a humorous message as well.
-Upload that new index.html - Then open up an FTP program such as FileZilla, or if you have cPanel access you can use the file manager.
Then upload that blank index file into the Wordpress website that includes the website’s content, plugins & any access folders on your WordPress blog.
-Test - You should always test your website to find out whether or not some strange activity has occurred on your blog.
Who knows, there could possibly be a unique situation such as your website’s hosting.
If it becomes inactive or its not working properly, don’t panic go back into your FTP program and delete those index files. These basic steps aid in adding an additional layer of security to your website, making it very daunting for uneasy eyes to search around looking for any potential weaknesses.
