Carson Emmanuel Hart had always been rowdy, unable to sit still and accept the world for what it was. He would often stand up on chairs, jump from high points of the table. He never understood the word “no”. There was only “can” in his head. Carson was head strong and stubborn, never quite knowing where he fit in with the world.
His speech was delayed at a younger age; more often than not you would hear him quietly jabbering to himself in his room. Carson was sort of a loner, rushing by and taking it by the horns. He was never skilled in anything special, like his Moms or sisters. Carson felt a little out of place in his own home.
By seven, however, Carson had found his voice and used it at full force. He yelled at the top of his lungs, climbed up to the highest tree and stood his ground. There were downsides to this. He often questioned authority, told off his teachers when he felt like he wasn’t being heard. Carson’s filter lacked any sort of pause and reflect.
This would be his downfall.
When Melissa was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Carson lashed out. He was thirteen at the time, and his track record only got worse. Carson would run away from home; he biked as far as he could before collapsing into tears. He would yell at people who dared to look at him funny. He was hostile and unforgivable to people.
At fourteen, Carson was given pills. He used them to cope with the pain, hiding them in tic-tac bottles, Advil containers. Anything to hide them.
When he was fifteen, Carson stole some liquor from his Moms’ cabinet. He had just found out that Julia was cheating on Mother. Carson kicked a hole in the wall.
He took his car to the a beach 4 hours north of their house, turned off his tracker, sat and drank until he could no longer drink, and took a few pills. He blackout in the backseat of the car. The police found him a few hours later, took him to the hospital. Carson came out fine— he had just wanted to escape from the pressure of home. He needed a way out of everything that was crushing him.
No one found out about the continuing use of Xanax, though.
And the adrenaline rushes didn’t stop after Melissa came back from remission. Now, at sixteen, Carson would run away as far as he could make it. He was truant and disobedient at home. The rowdy kid had grown up into a cold person. Carson used to laugh, open and freely. He had been a happy baby.
There were no smiles after her cancer. He supposed some people just don’t come back from their dark place. Carson fell into himself if he wasn’t causing a storm. He went silent some days, locked himself in his room, and fiddled with his guitar. He kept on doing pills, despite the weight loss, the lack of sleep. But, there was a good side.
The one good that came out of this was the guitar. Carson had always played a little, but he slowly began to go into song writing. He taught himself major chords, but kept it a secret from his family. He wanted nothing to do with the music industry during his mother’s cancer.
After applying to PSU to be with his siblings, Carson has chosen music out of all careers. He wants to be a better person— he wants to be happy and not as angry. He only hopes that good will come out of this. The hard part about being good is the pills. He keeps falling into dark habits. Carson know he needs to tell someone— but who?
He just wants good again.
BABY, THERE'S NO OTHER SUPERSTAR
Carson wears jeans a t-shirts. He is fairly simple guy, and doesn’t try hard at all for anything whatsoever. When he needs to dress up for concerts, Carson will put on a three piece suit. His t-shirts are often plain colors, with converse on his feet. Carson doesn’t wear too many brand names. He opts for comfort instead.
